Creating spaces that are welcoming, inclusive and regenerative is core to everything CR does.
This describes our neighbourhood work.
To create an environment which encourages people to journey together to find friendship, hope and meaning, we will:
Only run an activity if we believe it will build community.
Facilitate a culture of welcome and inclusion, which involves us all.
We invite people to come alongside one another, recognising everyone has a part to play. We facilitate joining in through practical ways like how we seat people and introduce others into the conversation and encourage these qualities in others. Once this culture is established, everyone models this norm to new arrivals.
Create a space where people leave feeling better than when they came in.
We do this by listening, getting to know one another and remembering details about lives. We provide a safe, informal space where people can be real about challenges and feel cared for, without everyone feeding on the negative. By demonstrating kindness and care, it becomes the culture of the space.
Challenge well, still valuing the person.
We create a culture where issues are resolved and coach people to do this, demonstrating a different way of being. This helps maintain our safe space where peer support can flourish and breaks cycles of disconnection and disengagement.
Recognise and value people’s contribution, which encourages them to get involved.
Everyone has an opportunity to lead and follow in line with our values, which builds confidence and willingness to participate.
Facilitate sessions in a pair, whenever possible
To make it easier to model team, healthy relationships and to develop the skills and confidence of future leaders.
